In memory of Sir Michael Hardie Boys

The partners of JB Morrison were saddened to hear of the recent passing of Sir Michael Hardie Boys, at the age of 92.

The origins of JB Morrison date back to 1924 when Sir Michael’s father, Reginald Hardie Boys, set up his own firm in Panama Street, Wellington.  Sir Michael joined the firm in 1954, shortly followed by his close friend John Morrison, and the firm was known as Hardie Boys, Scott and Morrison from 1957.

Sir Michael remained a partner of the firm for 24 years, and the firm retained “Hardie Boys” as part of its name until 1980, when Sir Michael was appointed a judge of the High Court.  Sir Michael was later appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal and Privy Counsellor, and in 1996 was appointed New Zealand’s 17th Governor General.

We are proud of our past association with Sir Michael (and his father Reginald Hardie Boys before him) and send our sincere condolences to the Hardie Boys family.
